At AMORE Health + Beauty, IPL photofacials help you fade dark spots, calm redness, and smooth uneven tone with a quick, non-surgical treatment. Over time, sun damage and everyday life can leave skin looking dull or blotchy. IPL uses high-energy pulses of broad-spectrum light to target color in the skin—melanin in brown spots and hemoglobin in visible vessels—so discoloration gradually clears and your complexion looks brighter and more even.

What IPL Treats
IPL is ideal for color problems close to the skin’s surface, including:
- Sun spots, age spots, and freckles
- Redness from rosacea and facial flushing
- Broken capillaries and small facial veins
- Blotchy tone and photoaging
- Poikiloderma (red/brown discoloration) on the neck and chest
- Overall dullness and lack of glow
How IPL Works
During treatment, a handheld device delivers brief flashes of filtered light. Melanin and hemoglobin absorb this energy and convert it to gentle heat. That heat breaks up pigmented spots and coagulates tiny vessels so your body can naturally clear them over the following days and weeks. Most people see a quick brightness boost after one session, with spots darkening (“peppering”) before they flake or fade.
How Many Treatments Will I Need?
Most patients benefit from a series of three to five sessions, spaced about four weeks apart. Lighter sun spots and redness often respond faster; deeper discoloration or widespread redness may need a few extra sessions. After you reach your goal, occasional maintenance keeps results fresh, especially if you’re frequently outdoors.
How Long Does a Session Take?
Plan for 20–30 minutes for the face; add time for the neck, chest, or hands. We cleanse your skin, apply eye protection, and use a cooling gel or tip for comfort. You’ll feel quick, warm snaps with each pulse.
Am I a Candidate?
IPL works best for lighter skin tones (generally Fitzpatrick I–III) not recently tanned or using self-tanner. If you have deeper skin tones or very dark tans, we’ll discuss safer alternatives or adjusted settings. Certain medications, active infections, or pregnancy may postpone treatment. Not sure which option is right? We’ll work with you to help you find the ideal solution for your specific concerns.
Recovery and Aftercare
There’s little to no downtime. Expect pinkness for a few hours and mild warmth like a light sunburn. Brown spots usually look darker for 3–7 days before they lift or fade. You can wear makeup the same day. Avoid hot workouts for 24 hours, skip retinoids and exfoliants for a few days, and commit to daily SPF 30+ to protect your progress.
Possible Side Effects
Temporary redness, swelling, and darkening of spots are common and expected. Less common risks include blistering, pigment changes, or scabbing. We minimize risks by customizing settings to your skin type and following a clear pre- and post-care plan.
